False Start Page - I'm inside the UK but uCoach is saying that I'm accessing from a restricted country!
We use technology to prevent people from outside the UK from accessing content that we need to limit to the UK for rights reasons.
If you are using a 3G card from a UK mobile network operator and are being told that content is not available in your territory this is because we have had to make the decision to block all users accessing geographically restricted content via 3G cards. This is because at the moment the mobile phone operating companies cannot tell us if users accessing content via a 3G card are roaming (outside the UK) or not.
If we cannot say for sure that a user is in the UK, we cannot show them our rights-restricted content.
We are aware that it is unsatisfactory that while you are in the UK you are still blocked from accessing our rights-restricted content. We are working with the mobile operators to find a technical solution to this problem.
In the meantime, you should still be able to access all of our non-geographically restricted content.
If you are not using a 3G card from a UK mobile network operator, please continue reading.
You might have been identified as outside the UK because your computer is on a foreign-based network, or is routed overseas (sometimes the case with work connections if your employer is not UK-based). Some programs, such as web accelerators, can also cause your IP address to appear as if it is outside the UK.
If uCoach doesn't recognise your IP address at all, then you won't be able to watch programmes.
Occasionally it may simply be a network error, so it's worth closing your browser or router and reopening as a new IP address is allocated which may be UK-based.
Our Geo-IP technology system recognises IP addresses provided by UK-based internet service providers (ISPs). If uCoach doesn't recognise your address, you must contact your ISP as they alone can register your address. If your ISP has registered with the appropriate databases, our servers are updated on a monthly basis so you will have to wait until the next refresh to gain access.
Logging into uCoach
I have a username and password for uCoach but I cannot login?
1. Please check that you have the latest update of your browser installed. Not all the uCoach functionality works with Internet Explorer 6, which although originally released in 2001 (nearly 10 years ago) is still used on some older computers. Users with Internet Explorer 6 should update their browser to a newer version – either Internet Explorer 7 or 8. The updates can be found below:
Download Internet Explorer 7 (For old slower computers)
Download Internet Explorer 8 (For maximum security and functionality)
Try logging in again.
If you installed Internet Explorer 7 and the site still does not work then try installing Internet Explorer 8.
This will solve 95% of problems.
2. Check that you are typing the username and password correctly. If you are unsure please try copying and pasting the username and password into the appropriate boxes.
3. If you are still having problems please go to www.supportdetails.com and send the details to our support team using “recipient’s email” as coaching[insert at sign which has been removed for security reasons]uka.org.uk. This will help us identify any issues with your computer. Then please go to “Contact Us” link and fill in all relevant information along with a description of your issue.
Do I need to login to access any content?
There is currently no need to login to access any content. The only people who need to login are those trying to access the site from overseas or those who are Coaching Qualifications Tutor.
How is this different to the information on www.uka.org.uk ?
All the content from the UKA website is now located on uCoach. We are working closely with our Home Country Athletics Federation partners to ensure that information relating to coaching can be sourced in one location. Whether you are looking to get started in coaching, find a coach education course, attend a conference or masterclass, or find information on how to coach a particular element of athletics, you will be able to find it on uCoach in the coming months.
Where some information is provided at a local level uCoach will direct you to your home country or area contact who will be able to help with your query.
How does the filter work?
Over the coming months uCoach will become a key source for coaching related resource. We are currently uploading articles, videos, blogs, podcasts, manuscripts that contain high quality coaching information. As this information becomes available you can search for the information most applicable to you and your coaching needs.
Want a video to assist with demonstrating sprint drills for young athletes? Use the various choices on the uCoach filter to select your media type, general coaching area, and athletics discipline, and the available resource will be found. Check back regularly to see the new resource we have added – additionally, the home page will highlight the most recently added items .
Can I become a registered user or How do I login to the website?
At present uCoach can be viewed without logging in. In a few months time, use of the coaching resources available in uCoach will be restricted to licensed coaches only. Your membership details will be communicated with you at that time, but for now you can enjoy all elements of what the site has to offer.
What else will be available:
uCoach will continue to be developed over the next year. Eventually you will have the ability to download all the multimedia content to a player for use on your own laptops/devices. This will ensure uCoach can be there to support your coaching where ever you go and whenever you are with your athletes. We are continually looking for coaching resource that can be used on the website so if you have any further suggestions/ recommendations then please get in contact with us.
Adding a Home Screen icon onto your iPhone
Now you can access uCoach directly from your iPhone Home Screen. When viewing the website from your iPhone, press the ‘+’ symbol from Safari and from the pop-up list select ‘Add to Home Screen’, finally confirm your action by pressing the ‘Add’ button. Your iPhone will now add a uCoach icon to your Home Screen giving you quick access to the website.
Why can’t I access uCoach from overseas?
uCoach is GEO-IP protected – so that as the information on it grows, we can ensure that the knowledge and expertise on it is mainly used to benefit UK based coaches and athletes. uCoach is designed to support UK coaches in their coaching practice and is paid for by British funding streams. It costs UKA money every time a page is accessed, a video watched or an audio presentation downloaded. Therefore, in the same way as the multimedia on the BBC website is restricted to UK residents so too is the content on uCoach.
I am a British coach travelling abroad. How do I access the site while I am OUTSIDE the UK?
If you hold a valid UKA coaching license you can login to the site using the login box at the bottom of each page. Once logged in you can access uCoach from anywhere in the world.
How do I login?
To login you will need to use your Unique Reference Number (URN) located on myATHLETICS Portal as your USERNAME and the PASSWORD that is automatically generated for you by uCoach and was emailed to all licensed coaches on Friday 23 July 2010 or on several occasions since.
If you have forgotten your username or password you can retrieve them by filling in the email address linked to your coaching license and they will be emailed to you.
I didn’t receive my password on the 23 July 2010 and uCoach says my email address cannot be found?
If the email linked to your coaching license is incorrect we will have been unable to contact you to provide you with your password. In order to access uCoach you must first update your details held on the myATHLETICS Portal.
Having updated this information your uCoach login and password will be automatically emailed to you within 2 months.
