Coaching Assistant Award Pre-Course Material

Prior to attending the Coaching Assistant Award prospective Coaching Assistants should download, read and complete the tasks contained within the induction pack. The pack has been designed to assist you in preparation for the course and provides background information on the course itself and the Role of the Coaching Assistant. There are six tasks within the induction pack that need to be completed before the course and taken with you.

As part of task 6 of the induction pack you are required to view additional documents to become familiar with some of the course material prior to the course including:

Task cards

Task cards are used throughout the course for you to deliver athletics activities from. The cards have been designed to offer a range of run, jump and throw activities for developing athletes. It is important to become familiar with the layout of the cards in particular to the headings and content of each box to assist you in your preparation.

Session plans

On day two of the course you will be introduced to working from sessions plans. As a Coaching Assistant in action you will be working directly from a session plan provided by the Supervising Coach. Session plans may vary in layout however, view this template to become familair with what should be included in a session plan; the goals, organisation and units of a session. The session plan included relates to developing the fundamentals of jumping.

What 2 On Track 4 cards

The What to Coach On Track 4 cards detail the key technical features required at this level. There are five cards in total covering, speed, endurance, wheelchair racing, jumps and throws. Coaching Assistants should become very familiar with these points, they will be introduced on the course and post course Coaching Assistants are expected to observe athletes and identify the presence of these techncial areas.

How 2 On Track 4 cards

To complement the technical knowledge you acquire on the course you will also need to develop your skills in relation to how this information is delivered. In order to assist you in developing your coaching skills we have provided a visual model of the key skills required when coaching. These coaching skills are introduced and reinforced on the course. Familiairise yourself with the style and layout of the card and they will be discussed in more detail on the course.
