Welcome Sports Leaders

Congratulations on completing your Sports Leaders UK qualification and welcome to UKA’s dedicated coaching website - uCoach

UKA, the Home Country Associations (England Athletics, Scottish Athletics, Welsh Athletics and Northern Ireland Athletics) and our affiliated clubs are reliant on the wide network of volunteers who are involved in the sport. The wide range of opportunities make volunteering in Athletics a very rewarding experience. Keep reading to find opportunities to get involved and stay involved.

What volunteering opportunities are available for leaders?

There are opportunities to volunteer that can get you involved in a ‘one-off’ capacity or as a regular ‘ongoing’ role within local Athletics Clubs. The list of roles if endless, however the following list might help to get you thinking about how you can get involved:

  • Road Running Leaders
  • Athletics Club Leaders
  • Event Support
  • Officiating e.g. starting races, timekeeping, measuring distances etc
  • Publicity
  • Administration
  • Team Manager
  • Club Committee Member, e.g. Treasurer, Secretary,
  • Writing press releases, newsletters etc.
  • Managing the club’s website
  • Fund-raising
  • Decorating the club house!

Further Training available

Further training opportunities are available to help you to develop Athletics specific knowledge.

Athletics Leader Award

The Athletics Leader Award will introduce individuals to a range of athletics activities to develop the run, jump and throw skills of athletes in the fundamentals and foundation stages of development and build on what you have learned through completing the Sports Leaders UK Award.

Leader in Running Fitness Award

Leadership in Running Fitness is designed to prepare you as a Leader to provide a safe and enjoyable running experience for people over 12 years of age, of any level of ability, age, size and shape.

Coaching & Officiating Qualifications

Courses for you to train to be a coach start with the Coaching Assistant Award. If you fancy becoming an Official there are also qualification awards available in this area.
